چکیده

The anisotropic XY-model in a transverse field (s = 1/2) on the onedimensional alternating superlattice (closed chain) is considered. The solution of the model is obtained by introducing a generalized Jordan-Wigner transformation which maps the system onto a non-interacting fermion gas. The exact excitation spectrum is determined by reducing the problem to a diagonalization of a block matrix, and it is shown that it is numerically identical to the one obtained by using the approximate transfer matrix method . The induced magnetization and the susceptibility χ are determined as a function of the transverse field, and it is shown that, at T = 0, the susceptibility presents multiple singularities. It is also shown, as expected, that this critical behaviour driven by transverse field belongs to the same universality class of the model on the alternating chain.

The Longitudinal Dynamic Correlation and Dynamic Susceptibility of the Isotropic Xy-model on the 1d Alternating Superlattice

The dynamic susceptibility χ Q (ω) of the isotropic XY-model (s=1/2) on the alternating superlattice (closed chain) in a transverse field h is obtained exactly at arbitrary temperatures. It is determined from the results obtained for the dynamic correlations < S jn(t)S z lm(0) >, which have been calculated by introducing the generalized Jordan-Wigner transformation, by using Wick’s theorem and ...

Thermoelectric properties of superlattice nanowires

We report here on a theoretical model for the electronic structure and transport properties of superlattice nanowires, considering their cylindrical wire boundary and multiple anisotropic carrier pockets. The thermoelectric properties of superlattice nanowires made of various lead salts ~PbS, PbSe, and PbTe! are investigated as a function of the segment length, wire diameter, crystal orientatio...

United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization and International Atomic Energy Agency THE ABDUS SALAM INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR THEORETICAL PHYSICS CONVERSION OF OPTICAL WAVE POLARIZATIONS IN 1D FINITE ANISOTROPIC PHOTONIC CRYSTAL

We show that by using one dimensional anisotropic photonic structures, it is possible to realize optical wave polarization conversion by transmission or by reflection. Thus a single incident S(P) polarized plane wave can produce a single reflected P(S) polarized wave and a single transmitted P(S) polarized wave. This polarization conversion property can be fulfilled with a simple finite superla...

Quantum Spin Chains with Regularly Alternating Bonds and Fields

We consider the spin1 2 XY chain in a transverse field with regularly varying exchange interactions and on-site fields. In two limiting cases of the isotropic (XX) and extremely anisotropic (Ising) exchange interaction the thermodynamic quantities are calculated rigorously with the help of continued fractions. We discuss peculiarities of the low-temperature magnetic properties and a possibility...

Engineering correlation effects via artificially designed oxide superlattices.

Ab initio calculations are used to predict that a superlattice composed of layers of LaTiO3 and LaNiO3 alternating along the [001] direction is a S=1 Mott insulator with large magnetic moments on the Ni sites, negligible moments on the Ti sites and a charge transfer gap set by the energy difference between Ni d and Ti d states, distinct from conventional Mott insulators. Correlation effects are...
